A person who laced sweets with tranquilliser and gave them to children at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two children aged nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.

Ruben was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on late November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he managed.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.

"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC stated materials including lubricant, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his suspicions.

She stated the defendant went on to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she continued.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining the police response of the events.

The prosecutor explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities once more.

She said the defendant then played the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
